Show Your Locks Some Love!

You’ve switched shampoos, tried different conditioners and used an array of styling products, but you're still not happy. Maybe your hair still feels too oily, too dry or looks lifeless. So, what’s the problem?

Well, the issue may not your hair — it might be the way you wash it.

Before getting in the shower, brush your hair to work out knots and remove loose strands. In the shower, remember to shampoo your scalp. If there seems to be little lather, repeat the process. As you massage the shampoo into your scalp and hair, put your head under the water to increase the suds, and then rinse them out completely.

Next, condition only the ends of your hair. If you feel like you need extra conditioning, comb it through while in the shower. With the conditioner still in your hair, wash your face and body and shave your legs, then rinse it out.

Lastly, dry off and squeeze the excess water out of your hair. When you get out of the shower, you can spray your strands with leave-in conditioner or just comb your hair and wrap it in a towel.

Show your locks some love with proper washing, and they’ll love you back!

Age is Only a Number!

Maybe you’re over 40. Or you just had a baby. Chances are you’re wondering if you’re too old for long hair.

The answer is no.

There are no rules for membership in the long hair club! Some teens look great with short hair, while your grandmother might benefit from growing it out. When a length looks good on you, nothing else matters.

It’s hard to be objective about yourself, though, so find a trustworthy stylist and ask their opinion. If you crave a change, consider trying highlights or a new style. In 10th grade I gave myself horrendous bangs, but now, at 33, I love them.

Love your long hair? Keep it! Remember that little changes can transform your look.

Dear Friends,

It is at this time of year when we take time to reflect and give thanks for the bounty of our lives. Thanksgiving is also a great time to remember those who have less. To that effect, Salon True will be holding a food drive from now through Tuesday, November 22nd. All donations collected will go the the Ardmore Food Pantry run by St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Ardmore. For the past several years, St. Mary’s has had a food pantry which is staffed by parish and community volunteers. Food preparation ideas and simple, healthy recipes are included with the food items each recipient receives. In addition, volunteers provide information and assistance to those who may not know if they are eligible for food stamps, (SNAP -Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) or the WIC program (Women, Infant and Children Assistance). Working with area community groups and congregations of all faiths is vital to the Food Pantry’s success.

Hunger is a real but often hidden problem in our community. Around the Delaware Valley more and more people are seeking help from food banks, shelters and emergency kitchens due to loss of employment, reduction in work hours, rising food costs and/or elimination of benefits. The USDA reports that in the United States more than 36.2 million people, including 12.4 million children live in “food insecure” households – meaning they don’t have dependable, consistent access to adequate amounts of nutritious foods to maintain good health. Philabundance estimates that 900,000 people in the Delaware Valley are at risk of hunger and that number continues to grow.

Top ten, feather extensions, & education

Apr. 28, 2011 *

We’re thrilled to report that Salon True was selected by V-SN TV as one of the top ten salons in the Philly-metro area! Our team was in Rittenhouse Square on Monday for a photo shoot to display our work. We’d like to thank our models Allie, Christine, and Kyle for doing an amazing job.  We really love you guys. You rock!!! Salon True is in the middle of updating our website; when we do, our video from V-SN TV will be linked in so you can view it.  I’ll keep you updated.

Salon True is also proud to be the first on the Main Line to offer feather extensions! Our whole team is sporting these cool, little, colorful feathers that can be curled and shampooed like normal hair.  I personally am a fan of the pink ones, so of course that’s what I have.  Our friends from Texas and Florida brought this cool trend to our attention.  Stop in to find out what all the rage is about!

In a few weeks, Sarah is heading to Amsterdam for education at the Kuene Academy in Soest. That’s right, Amsterdam!  Sarah will be learning international trends in color and cutting. When she gets back, she’ll share her knowledge with us helping us stay on top of our game in an industry that is constantly growing and changing. With Katie recently returning from the Vidal Sassoon Academy, Sarah leaving the country for education at the Keune Academy, and Kristen slated to attend the Vidal Sassoon Academy in June, it’s obvious that our team’s passion is education.  It’s our purpose to not only educate ourselves, but you as well.

Please fill out our survey online so we can better serve you. Let us know how we’re doing and what we can do to improve. It’s anonymous, so if you want us to know who you are, fill in your name at the bottom under “additional remarks.” Remember your relationship with us is our first priority!

Love,

Tamera

Happy Wednesday!

I’d really like everyone to try a new product this month, especially the men. I think we will offer 30% off all John Allan’s conditioners.  It is very important that men condition their hair.  I think it’s even more important for men due to the fact that men’s hair tends to be more dry and coarse. Proper conditioning of the hair can help prevent the hair from thinning.

As some of you may know, Katie is in Chicago at the Vidal Sassoon Academy.  She is in heaven learning new techniques and practicing on real people! She’s keeping us updated with pictures of new haircuts she’s learning . . . pretty fabulous. Check them out on facebook. I am so proud of my team and what they will be accomplishing this year.

You can always feel free to try different stylist in the salon. This way you can see how everyone cuts and looks at your hair differently.  We encourage change within the salon if you feel you could use something a little different that your stylist hasn’t been able to give you.  Salon True is not a commission salon, so you can feel comfortable seeing anyone in a total team environment.

Kristen is our newest team member and has made remarkable strides as a stylist since joining us back in November. She, along with the rest of the team, continues to take ongoing education classes. She’s also slated for training at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in June. Her desire to learn is unmatched and very refreshing to see. We are very thankful to have her on our team!

Tips of the Trade:

I’d like to share two things today: 1) comb whatever product you are using through your hair unless instructed otherwise.  2) blow out your bangs first, then rough dry the rest of your hair after you wash it.

Salon True in the community

As we start this crazy month of April, I’d like to suggest adding a “milk_shake repairing hair treatment” to your scheduled service. That’s a great idea heading into the hot summer months ahead. Also, until April 13, we are offering 20% off milk_shake’s leave-in conditioner.  This product is great for strength, tangles, and styling.  It also offers protection against the sun and is great to spray in before you jump into the pool!

This past weekend, Salon True had some major events that we were happy and proud to be a part of.  On Saturday, April 2, the Salon True Team offered its time and talents to the Junior League of Philadelphia. We were asked to volunteer our services and do the hair for their Green Carpet Event.  This fashion show was put together by the new members of the Junior League and took place at The Piazza at Schmidt’s in Northern Liberties. Sarah, Kristen and I did hair for twelve ladies in a small tent in the freezing cold, and rocked it!  All of the models were so nice and sweet, which made participating more special.  I’m happy to say that all of the hair held in place and the show went on without a hitch.  Oh, and the ladies looked fabulous as well.  J

On Sunday, April 3, we came into the salon to host our “ParentTalk” with volunteers from A Chance To Heal (ACTH).  Our response was wonderful. About fifteen mothers, fathers, and youth leaders came to hear how to develop healthy body image in our young children.  We will try to host another event in the summer and fall.  I feel there is such a need to bring awareness and help parents understand how your child could develop poor body image and an eating disorder.  Wonderful, painful stories were shared by some while others just listened.  It is worth coming just to hear what to avoid and how to be a good role model for today’s youth.

Busy, busy week ahead! I am energized and excited at the difference Salon True is making by being a part of the community. Thanks to all of you who support us in our efforts!

Hello, good people! I am so happy that Spring is finally here! That means it’s time to get your hair back in shape.  Come into Salon True this week and save 20% on milk_shake’s Active Yogurt Mask and Active Milk Mask. The mask will help repair your dead ends from the long, cold winter.

This Spring, neutrals are in style along with bright blue, greens, reds, greens and yellows. I personally love nudes and whites together with some coral or turquoise jewelry.  The worst is when you see someone in a great outfit, but they have dead ends or dry, frizzed out hair.  Ouch!  Though we all have spring fever, let’s not forget that the first thing people see is your hair, eyes, and smile.  So with that said, please schedule something fresh for the spring with your Salon True stylist.  I love soft color and cool contrast that just mesh together, with freshly cut hair!  With the warm weather just around the corner, it’s time to shine!

Please don’t forget about our ParentTalk we are hosting in conjunction with A Chance to Heal (ACTH) on April 3rd.  It will be an open discussion for parents to become more educated on eating disorders.  I think it is something to at least come in and check out. As parents, it is so hard to know what is the right and wrong thing to say to your child, no matter what the age is. This talk is to just give advice and knowledge about promoting positive self body image.

I really hope this year we are all taking care of ourselves. Let’s not forget to take our vitamins, exercise regularly, eat healthy, and take advantage of any good weather that comes our way! You know you can find me on the links working on my game. Maybe I’ll see you out there.

Love yourself first!
